EPISODE 4 SUMMARY:

"People in power and privilege hold the burden of change."

This week, we're doing something a little different. Rather than a traditional interview, we wanted to share a recent webinar that  Kaneischa Johnson, a Austin-based inclusive leadership and culture advocate, prepared and presented for us. This collaboration was originally intended to serve as a the start of our team's internal education around the role of white supremacy in real estate, but grew into a larger conversation we wanted to share with our community as a whole.

This episode is fantastic starting point for anyone looking for brief history of racism and white supremacy built into real estate, steps to take when to recognize their own privilege and actionable ways to dismantle white supremacy despite being trapped in a capitalistic society. We hope it leaves you inspired (and somewhat prepared!) to ask hard questions, challenge standards, and face the ways you can empower your community through your own accountability.

Kaneischa Johnson (she-her)

Austin-based Kaneischa has been transforming teams, organizations, and individuals through out her 12+ years in management, strategy, execution, and consulting. Varied experiences (including globally distributed and high growth SaaS tech startups, community development, and nonprofit spaces) has made way for her to quickly connect people to their strengths and the “how-to” so they can apply those in effective ways for the groups they serve, while generating outstanding outcomes.

She’s an inclusive leadership and culture advocate, and passionate about lifelong learning, skill-based talent development, and connection - by which all things are possible. Transforming capitalism starts with individuals - working and living in their purpose, making mindful decisions, and being open to constantly challenging their inherent biases and the systems they are a part of.
